FAQ About Fees and Shop Norms.

  1. The tuition for the Acoustic Guitar Making course is $4,795 plus tax.
  2. A deposit of $500 is required to hold your bench.
  3. The full tuition must be paid before the first day of the course, we do not accept funds on day 1 as we want to get the course going.
  4. If you withdraw your $500 deposit will be forfeit. You may however use that money towards any guitar purchase in the Blackwood Store, or for a later course deposit should you return at a later date.
  5. If a student leaves the program in the first week of the course either by their own choice or by expulsion, a penalty of half the tuition fee will be levied. Any outstanding fees for accommodation, wood, supplies, or other fees owing must be paid before a refund can be made. If a student leaves the program for any reason after the first week of the course, no refund will be made.
  6. We have a ZERO tolerance policy for anyone displaying violent or aggressive behavior. If this occurs, the student will be removed immediately. There will be no refunds in this situation.
  7. If for any reason Blackwood has to cancel a course, you will get all of your money back.
  8. If you have lost an admin fee, but sign up for a later course, you get it back as part of your next deposit.
  9. Accommodations are available as a package for the 35 days of the course at a cost of $$1,800 plus tax. The room includes access to a washroom and kitchenette.
  10. Bring your own lunch. Lunch will be from 12 noon until 1pm daily.
  11. We typically have one break in the morning, one in the afternoon.
  12. You may work in the shop, without instruction or supervision, until 9pm on weekdays.
  13. The shop will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays for your use, no instruction or supervision is given.
  14. Sundays we are closed.
  15. Washroom access is on the lower side of the house.
  16. No alcohol, pot, or other substances that make you dangerous.
  17. If you are unsure about using a machine, ask, and you will get assistance to keep you safe.
  18. You understand that woodworking includes hazards with machinery and hand tools. You accept this fact and will not hold Blackwood responsible in any way for personal injury.
  19. You may make a second guitar during your stay. There will be an additional fee of $1000. Teaching assistance will only be available on guitar #1.
  20. Shop cleanup will be called at 4:30 pm daily.
  21. We don’t have music in the shop because it always leads to disagreements…
  22. You are responsible for bringing your own Personal Protection Equipment such as safety glasses, dust masks, and hearing protection.
  23. Feel free to bring your own hand tools.
  24. You may bring your own wood, please consult us to ensure the wood is appropriate. If so, you may keep the wood supplied with the course.
  25. Parking is available in the lower driveway.
  26. All materials to build one acoustic guitar are supplied.
  27. Course length is 5-weeks.
