Why buy from an independent maker?
Just as a good tailor makes a suit that fits you, a good guitar maker will make a guitar selected for the type of music you wish to play, and the right size to fit you. We can adjust the shape and size of the neck, depth of the body, add a cutaway, adjust the action, change the nut width, use your favourite tuning machines, add an arm rest and so on. I can make a guitar that will feel like a glove, look fantastic, sound amazing, and play the way you expect.
What types of wood do you use?
For necks we often use high grade mahogany, which is traditional, but you will also see some interesting substitutions here like Black Cherry, Maple, Walnut, Ebony and Rosewood. 3 or 5-piece necks are the norm at Blackwood because the neck becomes much more rigid, adding sustain while resisting warp and twist. Bodies are made from a wide range of exotics such as Cocobolo, Wenge, Curly Maple, East Indian Rosewood, Honduran Rosewood, African Blackwood, Malaysian Blackwood, Australian Blackwood, Koa, Bubinga and more.
